The Litmus Test for True Forgiveness

A simple two-step exercise reveals whether you've truly forgiven someone or just buried the resentment.

We often tell ourselves we’ve moved on. We say the words: “I forgive them.” But are we truly free from the weight of that resentment, or are we just carrying the baggage in a different bag?

In this video, I share a simple yet challenging exercise to help you determine if you have genuinely let go.

The Exercise:

  1. Find your “Unconditional Love” anchor: Think of something you love without reservation. Maybe it’s your children when they were babies, or a puppy. Feel that intense warmth and love in your chest right now.

  2. The Swap: While holding that exact same feeling of love, imagine swapping that image for the person you say you’ve forgiven.

If that feeling of love wavers, tightens, or disappears when you see their face, there is likely still work to be done.

Why This Matters

It’s a hard pill to swallow, but true forgiveness means reaching a state where you can send love even to those who hurt you.

Remember: Forgiveness is for you, not for them.

By forgiving, you aren’t letting them “win” and you aren’t “losing” anything. You are simply choosing to stop carrying the weight. You are choosing to be done.

Have you REALLY forgiven them?
